Blended cyber and physical attacks have been identified as a growing and increasing threat to the electricity sector. As the industry has taken advantage of the benefits of automation through remote monitoring and control in recent years, the grid has become increasingly dependent on the use of industrial control systems to operate. The tools and technology utilized in control center facilities enables operators to perform the tasks required of electric entities. If these systems were unavailable due to an intentional act or unintentional human error the operators would lose situational awareness and control capability of the electric system and would need to implement manual methods in an effort to maintain system reliability.
